Marjorie 'Marge' Funk was born September 20, 1930, in Etna, PA to the late Harriett and Edward Bergman, and went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, April 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Marge grew up in Shaler Township. After high school, she furthered her education at business school, where she gained accounting skills that she used throughout her life. Shortly after completing her education, she joined Funk Building Corporation. A young carpenter named Bob Funk captured her eye and heart, and they were married in 1951. Bob and Marge had three children within four years and their fourth just short of her thirtieth birthday. During those early years, they built a house on Powers Run Road in O'Hara Township, which would be their home for over fifty years. She made wonderful, life-long friends as a young girl and enjoyed these friendships for many years in various card clubs and especially while sharing the experience of raising families together. Marge joined the new Fox Chapel Presbyterian church in the mid-1950s volunteering in various capacities over many decades. She was one of the longest serving members, providing a strong spiritual community. Marge thrived in being a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, mother-in-law and friend to many--affectionately known to loved ones as Marge, Margie, Mom, Grandma, Grandma Marge, Aunt Marge, Aunt Margie, and Marge-in-Charge. She was a force of nature. Few had to wonder what she was actually thinking since she did not hesitate to mince words or speak her mind. She was always at the center of what was going on and took a lot of pride in moving her kids forward in life to pursue their dreams. She was generous with her time and talents and always at the ready to help. Her life stories are funny, heartbreaking, soothing and inspirational. This incredible woman went on to impact the lives of her grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren. If any of her family or friends were in need, Marge always stepped in to lend a hand--with passion and compassion. Over the years, she became the matriarch of an extended family, one that reached far and wide. Recently, Marge's two younger brothers and sister-in-law became residents at Concordia Retirement Village. Having them close brought her much joy and comfort. Marge was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband, Robert H. Funk; son, Thomas Funk; sister, Nancy Vanderglas, (Joe); and sisters-in-law June Bergman and Barb Bergman. Survivors include: brothers and sister-in-law, Kenneth Bergman of Cabot, PA, James Bergman (Carol) of Cabot, PA; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah Mink (Keith) of Lancaster, PA, Patricia Pare (Doug) of Breckenridge, CO; son, Robert Funk (Karen) of Brenham, TX; grandchildren and spouses, Shannon California (Ryan) Kevin Mink (Shannon), Jonathan Funk (Claire), Payton Funk, Jason Funk (Amy), Steven Funk (Abby), Amy Petersen (Adam); great-grandchildren, Grant and Amelia California, Marina, Myla and Hunter Mink, Nathan and Ethan Funk, Shane, Landon and Addison Funk, Sean and Theo Petersen; former daughter-in-law, Carolyn Marshall; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank dear friends, Joan Wilhelm, Kathy Shields and Ruth Gee for being constant in her life. Their many phone calls and visits were of immeasurable value during her last years at Concordia. Also, thank you to the many caregivers that supplied her most recent needs--their constant presence and loving care and support will forever be remembered and appreciated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9th, at 10:00 in the morning at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, followed by a reception. Customary remembrances, and, for those desiring, donations may be directed to Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot, Pennsylvania, which was her home for the past twenty plus years, or Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
