A teenage boy who was killed by gunfire in McKees Rocks on Saturday has been identified.

The victim was Ahsan Edwards, 15, of McKees Rocks, according to the Allegheny County Coroner’s Office. He was a student at the Sto-Rox School District.

Edwards died from a gunshot would to the chest, authorities said.

Police were called at 3:30 p.m. to the 300 block of Woodward Avenue.

The McKees Rocks Police Department posted on its Facebook page at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday asking residents to avoid the area.

“We are currently dealing with another shooting in the area of Third Street Park,” the post read.

Sto-Rox Superintendent Megan Van Fossan released a message to parents and guardians on Saturday saying the district was saddened to hear about the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family,” she said.

The message said support staff would be available this week for both students and staff, including Sto-Rox school counselors, social workers and therapists from the district’s partner agencies.

Anyone who wants to speak to someone should report to the Student Counseling Office, Van Fossan said in the message.

Sarah McCluan, district spokesperson, said Edwards will be deeply missed.

“He was a wonderful friend, a good student,” she said. “He brought joy to our lives.”

Police continue to investigate.
