Dylan Vojnik hit a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead Gateway to a 4-2 victory over Seneca Valley in nonsection baseball Saturday at PNC Park.

Elliot Sterner worked a scoreless fifth to earn the win for the Gators (1-12), who picked up their first win of the season. Nick Parrotto singled and tripled for the Raiders (7-7).

Apollo-Ridge 4, Penns Manor 2 - Logan Bianco singled and doubled and Brayden McCracken and winning pitcher Brayden Miles each had two hits and an RBI to lead Apollo-Ridge (3-10) in the consolation game of the Homer-Center tournament. Carter Smith went 4 for 4 for Penns Manor.

Ellwood City 13, Union 3 - Aaron Lake went 2 for 3 with a homer and four RBIs as Ellwood City (6-7) beat Union (9-2) in six innings in nonsection play. Isaiah Lutz went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and tossed a complete-game five-hitter. Dom Cucitrone doubled twice and drove in two runs for Union, which had its seven-game winning streak snapped.

Homer-Center 11, Derry 10 - In a wild championship game, the hosts won the Homer-Center tournament.

Derry (5-6) scored five runs in the top of the seventh on three walks, a hit by pitch and four errors to take a 9-8 lead. Nate Burchall hit an RBI groundout to force extra innings.

In the top of the ninth, Derry went up 10-9 when Brady Angus doubled and scored on a wild pitch. Homer-Center scored twice to win on two walks, a hit by pitch, a fielder’s choice and a walk-off RBI groundout by Braden Dunn

Knoch 4, Deer Lakes 0 - Noah Glassic gave up two hits over five scoreless innings as Knoch (5-8) shut out Deer Lakes (5-8) in a nonsection game. Jacob Stallsmith drove in two runs and Sean Morgan doubled and scored twice. Luca Derose took the loss, giving up two hits and two runs over four innings while striking out six.

Softball

Carmichaels 5, Jefferson-Morgan 2 - Bailey Barnyak struck out 12 and walked two in a complete-game Section 2-A win for Carmichaels (9-2, 6-1). Emilee Bazzoli struck out seven, walked four and gave up one earned run for Jefferson-Morgan (5-6, 5-4).

Elizabeth Forward 5, West Mifflin 0 - Shelby Telegdy tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 12 and walking two, and went 2 for 3 at the plate with three RBIs to lead Elizabeth Forward (12-1) to the nonsection win. Rylie Dobnak threw a complete game for West Mifflin (8-7), allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

Laurel 11, Mercer 0 - In nonsection play, Addie Deal went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double, four runs scored and four RBIs as Laurel (11-4) shut out Mercer. Deal also picked up the win, giving up one hit over four innings. Lexi Brua went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs while Autumn Boyd went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs.

Union 7, Deer Lakes 1 - Irelyn Fisher hit two home runs and drove in six to lead Union (14-1) to a nonsection win at Deer Lakes (9-6). Mallory Gorgacz added a solo home run while Olivia Williams went 3 for 3 and scored twice. Mia Preuhs picked up the complete-game win, striking out nine while giving up just one hit.

Boys lacrosse

Norwin 16, Franklin Regional - Griffin Bartos scored five goals and Luke Morrow added four goals as Norwin (6-6) beat Franklin Regional (4-7) in a nonsection game. Ryan Charles added three goals for Norwin.

Girls lacrosse

Peters Township 15, Moon 2 - Emma Kail and Dana Anderson each had three goals and two assists to lead Peters Township to a nonsection win..Ava Maloni had three goals and an assist and Grace Kail added two goals and five assists. Ellie Kairys and Avery Machusko scored for Moon.

Boys volleyball

Spartan Invitational - Host Hempfield won the tournament title, defeating Seneca Valley, 25-21, in the finals. The Spartans topped Obama Academy in the semifinals, 25-22, and North Hills in the quarterfinals, 25-22.

Track & field

South Fayette Invitational - Megan Cain won the 100 and 300 hurdles to lead Mt. Lebanon to the girls team title. Cain was also on the winning 400 relay team for the Blue Devils, who also won the 3,200 relay.

North Catholic won three titles - Madeline Meeuf in the 3,200, Aniela Balog in the long jump and Daphne Flerl in the triple jump.

Bethel Park’s Artemis Conaboy and Jenna Lang won the 400 and 800 while Avonworth’s Hayzes Robinson won the 100 and anchored the 1,600 relay team.

Other WPIAL girls winners were Peters Township’s Grace Senneway (1,600), Butler’s Jocie Slesinski (high jump), Armstrong’s Avery Hogan (discus), Burgettstown’s Peyton Mermon (javelin) and Beaver Falls’ Mikayla Anderson (shot put).

On the boys side, Dino Nadarevic won the discus and shot put and Kenny Lewis took the 200 to lead Gateway to a second-place finish behind Grove City.

Penn Hills got wins from Acahan Green in the 110 hurdles and the 1,600 relay team. Mt. Lebanon’s Matt Nguyen won the 100 and the Blue Devils took the 3,200 relay. South Park saw Jack Ozimek win the high jump and the 400 relay team take first.

Other WPIAL boys winners on the track were Beaver Falls’ Da’Karri Williams (400), Hampton’s Dale Hall (800), North Hills’ Kayden Lightner (1,600), South Fayette’s Tim Danziger 3,200) and West Mifflin’s Austin Kurta (300 hurdles).

WPIAL winners in field events were North Allegheny’s Zach Duckworth (pole vault), Upper St. Clair’s Dhruv Saggi (long jump) and Pine-Richland’s Ryan Beam (javelin).
