There will be one less roller coaster open to parkgoers at Kennywood when it opens for the season on Saturday.

According to a post made to its Instagram page on Wednesday, Kennywood said the Steel Curtain will be closed for the duration of the park’s season.

The flagship Steelers-themed attraction is closed as the steel ride undergoes extensive modification project to increase ride longevity and reliability, according to the Instagram post.

Kennywood Park officials said they have worked for several months with third-party engineers and the ride’s manufacturer to find a long-term solution to provide for uninterrupted rides.

“We understand the frustration many of you have felt not being able to experience Steel Curtain. We absolutely share that frustration with you. Our ultimate goal is obviously to ensure the Steel Curtain is a part of everyone’s Kennywood experience once it reopens,” Ricky Spicuzza, assistant general manager at Kennywood, said in the Instagram post.

Messages to Kennywood for additional details were not immediately returned.

The Steel Curtain opened in 2019 and is 4,000 feet with nine inversions and a max speed of 75 mph.

Kennywood named the after the Steel Curtain nickname bestowed to the 1970s defensive line that led Pittsburgh to four Super Bowls during that decade.
