A New Kensington man was among three people arrested by state police Monday after leading them on a high-speed chase in Somerset County that at one point reached up to and over 120 mph. Pharoah Sewell, 20, of New Kensington was charged along with Davontae Trevon Clayton, 19, of Belle Vernon and Quamarri Tavon Curry, 20, of Uniontown with felony weapons violations, receiving stolen property, evidence tampering and drug possession. On Monday, police were attempting a speeding stop on a vehicle clocked at 106 mph in a 70 mph zone on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Somerset County. As the chase continued, the speeding driver reached more than 120 mph, according to the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office. Part of the chase took place in an active work zone. Police said no one was injured. During the chase, a black handgun was thrown from the speeding vehicle. After an additional 10 minutes, the vehicle finally stopped on the shoulder and the three men inside were taken into custody. The thrown weapon, a 9 mm Glock handgun, was found to be reported stolen. It had been modified to shoot on fully automatic, prosecutors said. In court records, police said the the gun had two different serial numbers, an upper number and a lower frame number. The lower frame was reported stolen by Philadelphia police last August. A round was chambered in the gun and it had an attached magazine with 22 additional rounds, police said in court records. Seven loose 9mm rounds were found in the car’s trunk. A search of the rest of the vehicle turned up suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said. Sewell, Clayton and Curry were taken to the Somerset County Jail, unable to post bail. All three are scheduled for preliminary hearings May 14 in Judge Scott Walker’s Somerset court.
