Owner, "Big Jim Barchesky, started this business in 1959 in the backyard of his house in Derry. Jim got into the car business because of his father. His father and uncle owned Barchesky Brother's Chrysler and Plymouth in Derry before they ended the business in 1956. Superior Motors sold new Subaru's in the '70s, however, Big Jim did not keep them long because local people did not even know how to pronounce Subaru, plus foreign cars were then not allowed to be parked at Latrobe Steel. Jim's wife, Jane, has always worked alongside him, as well as his son J. Michael (Mike). It is coming up on five years now since we lost James but Jane, Mike, and now Mike's children, Kate and Tom, own and run Superior Motors.
