NORTH HUNTINGDON CONNECTED PARKS E RECREATION PUBLIC NOTICE NORTH HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP APPOINTMENT TO BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS The Township of North Huntingdon is seeking interested volunteers to serve on various boards and commissions of the Township. If you are at least 18 years of age and a resident of the Township, the following positions may be of interest if you have a desire to serve your community. PLANNING COMMISSION There are seven members on the Planning Commission who each serve a four-year term. The main goal of the Planning Commission is to provide for the orderly future growth and development of the community. Matters of interest include reviewing plans for new development, proposed changes to zoning classifications, and updating implementing the Township's Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission meets one time per month in the evening (current meeting date and time is at 7:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each month). The Planning Commission is assisted by the professional staff of the Township's Planning and Zoning Department. RECREATION BOARD There are seven members on the Recreation Board who serve five-year terms. The primary goal of the Recreation Board is to develop, plan, and coordinate a comprehensive recreation program for residents of the Township. Matters of interest include developing new recreation programs and implementing the Comprehensive Recreation Plan. The Recreation Board meets one time per month (current meeting time and date is 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month). The Recreation Board is assisted by a professional Recreation Director. CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION There are three members of the Commission (and up to three alternate members) that serve for six-year terms. The mission of the Commission is to provide equitable testing of all entry-level and promotional job opportunities in the Police Department. The Civil Service Commission meets when necessary, with the meeting schedule not extensive except during testing. NORTH HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY (NHTMA) There are five members on the NHTMA that serve five-year terms. The primary goal of the NHTMA is the management of the sanitary sewage system of the Township. Matters of interest include insuring sewage capacity for future development and rehabilitation of older areas of the sewage system. The NHTMA meets one time per month (currently at 5:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month). ZONING HEARING BOARD There are five members of the Board that serve five-year terms. The mission of the Board is to hear cases related to appeals from the Township's Zoning Ordinance. The Board primarily hears requests for variances from the Zoning Ordinance. The Zoning Hearing Board meets once per month (current meeting time and date is at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month). There is one seat on the Board to fill. WESTERN WESTMORELAND MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY (WWMA) There are three Township appointed members on the WWMA that serve five-year terms. The primary goal of the WWMA is the management of the sanitary sewage treatment plant which is located in the Township but processes sewage for Penn, Irwin, and other surrounding communities. Matters of interest include insuring sewage capacity for future development and rehabilitation of the treatment plant. The WWMA meets one time per month (currently at 7:30 on the third Thursday of each month).
