Nathaniel Klamut of O'Hara Township earned Boy Scouting's highest rank when he successfully completed the Eagle Scout Board of Review on March 6, 2024. The son of Elizabeth and John Klamut, Nathaniel led a team of youth and adult volunteers in planning, organizing and installing a sandbox and raised garden bed at Fox Hill Preschool at Faith United Methodist Church in Fox Chapel. The existing structure was a garden bed that had fallen into severe disrepair over the years. Klamut and his team removed the old garden bed, cleared the land around the old garden and constructed a new raised garden bed and added a sandbox. Preschoolers at Fox Hill can now play in the sandbox and learn small gardening tasks in the new, safer and more attractive structure. His project will serve young people for years to come. A junior at Fox Chapel Area High School, Klamut's activities outside of Scouting include Volleyball and Marching Band. He also takes a number of advanced math courses. He has his sights set on college with a focus on engineering and economics. His parents speak with pride of his desire to use his Eagle Scout Project to serve preschool students and encouraging them to enjoy outdoor fun. Klamut credits his time and leadership opportunities as a member of Troop 380 in the Japeechen District for his desire to serve others and encourage young people to enjoy the outdoors. Film Pittsburgh's JFilm Festival, the largest Jewish cultural event in the region, will screen May 2-12 at three theaters around Pittsburgh. This is the 31st year for this highly anticipated event, which brings engaging independent Jewish-themed films to Pittsburgh. This year, JFilm will present 16 films, six of which will be available to screen virtually. "Independent films are so impactful in people's lives." said Kathryn Spitz Cohan, Film Pittsburgh's executive director. Directed by Mike Cheslik in just his second feature effort, the film stars Ryland Brickson Cole Tews as failed applejack salesman/fur trapper Jean Kayak, who is on a mission to collect beaver pelts in order to make a living and win the heart of a local furrier. These are some of the most common signs of storm damage to look out for: Damaged or Missing Shingles Your shingles are one of the first places you should look when spotting storm damage on your home. Sharp winds from these storms can cause shingles to blow away or loosen from your roof. Hail or even flying debris such as tree branches can crack or dent your shingles if it hits your roof. Also, shingles may curl upward after being damaged in a storm. When shingles on your roof are missing or damaged, the material beneath it becomes at risk for early deterioration without having the protection of the shingles. Water leaks will create wet insulation, causing the insulation to stop working correctly. This could possibly require an expensive replacement of your attic insulation. You also need to take into consideration that excessive water can cause mold to grow quickly in your attic as well.
