PAID ADVERTISEMENT 0o: Citizens for a Great School Zoning Matters Zoning Exception Denied QVSD requested a zoning special exception for a new high school on the hiltop site. The Leet Township Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB) denied the request on March 28, 2022. The proposed use was deemed to be a detriment to the health, safety and welfare to the safety of the students and community. Read the ZHB decision: https://www.citizensforagreatschool.com/s/Leet-ZHB-QVSD-DECISION-03-28-22-B-with-signatures.pdf An Appeal for Risky Project QVSD filed an appeal to the ZHB denial of March 28, 2022 on April 12, 2022: https://www.citizensforagreatschool.com/studiesestimates The school board in good faith relied on its Superintendent and other experts to pursue this risky and expensive project. The QVSD got bad advice from the very experts they have recently rehired. It is time now to take a common sense approach and build a new high school on the current high school property... save money and build quickly with far less risk. Further Delay & Cost for a New High School Since the QVSD Board chooses to litigate the matter further, the denied zoning exception will be tied up in courts for an unknown length time. Interest rates, building materials and labor costs have dramatically increased since this project was announced. The QVSD has not released new cost estimates on this project, and the longer this project is held up, the more it will cost taxpayers. $10 million Spent without Proper Zoning CGS has been concerned for over two years about the QVSD purchase of the Hilltop site without a contingency in the event that a zoning exception was not approved. The exception was denied. A great deal of time and money has been wasted. Now QVSD wants to spend more tax dollars on a legal appeal because of their lack of foresight. QVSD is spending our tax dollars fighting the very citizens, particularly Leet Township residents, that pay school taxes, and who rely on the Zoning Boards to do what's best for the community. The students and teachers of QVSD suffer the consequences of delay and uncertainty for the foreseeable future, while tax payers continue to see their money spent on lawyers and other consultants. It IS Time to Build A New School can be built on the existing site of the QVSD High School -a new school that is affordable, accessible, environmentally friendly, and less risky. Where zoning, all utilities and emergency access are currently available. It's time to abandon the QVSD's crazy Hilltop plan.
